Water-Saving Tips for Indoors and Outdoors
Every Drop Counts
Although water covers 70.9% of the Earth’s surface, only 3% of that amount is fresh water. In the U.S., most people use about 100 gallons of water per day. That adds up to over 100,000 gallons (indoors and out) per year per household!
With water shortages and droughts in many regions, it’s especially important to use fresh water wisely—without cutting down on your necessary daily intake. Here are some great water-saving tips that you can start using today. Be sure to include your kids in household efforts to save water. They’ll love knowing they can help.
Indoors
- Fill up your Hygea Water System and use it for drinking water rather than running the tap.
- Don’t let unused water go down the drain; use it to water plants, feed pets, etc.
- Choose appliances that are more energy and water efficient.
- Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving.
- Install a water-saving showerhead.
- Use the washing machine and dishwasher for full loads only. You’ll save water, energy and money.
- Check faucets and toilets to ensure they aren’t leaking.
- Get the kids involved and make a fun challenge by thinking of ways to save water.
Outdoors
- Use sprinklers at night and only for the length of time that’s absolutely necessary.
- Cover your pools and spas to reduce evaporation.
